ever thought that you can replace your Eye Retina with some kind of Electronic Gadget ? What if you lost your eye ? Well now it is possible to replace your eye with the help of technology. Yes we guess this is
the most important invention of this year.
The Argus Retinal Prosthesis is an Electronic Retinal Implant produced by the
California-based company Second Sight. It is designed primarily to improve the
vision of those with severe cases of the inherited disease Retinitis Pigmentosa.
In March 2011, the Argus II version of the system was approved for
clinical and commercial use in the European Union. In February 2013, the
Argus II became the first commercial visual prosthesis to be approved for use
in the United States. The Argus
II is available for adults having age 25 and over. It’s currently available at a handful
of American eye centers. Though it’s expensive – about $144,000 – Medicare
announced it would cover the costs, and other insurers are expected to follow.
Don't get
too much excited people because there is a lot of work to do on this thing yet. The
design is primarily created for the patients who are suffering from the low
vision problems or people suffering from Retinitis Pigmentosa , overall 1.5 million people are suffering from
this disease. We hope that the future is not far away. You can now imagine even blind people
are having these glasses on and they can see the colors of this beautiful
world !
